Outreach

Situation: State and national agencies are developing nutrient criteria, which when implemented, could result in reductions of nutrients or various contaminants in waterbodies. Recent NRCS 590 nutrient management standard revisions support emerging technologies, and emphasize nutrient risk assessments as fundamental to minimize agricultural nonpoint source pollution of surface and groundwater. The quantitative risk assessment tools will be properly evaluated, and end-user friendly technology developed for these tools. There are multiple outreach messages and targets that will promote improved use of the appropriate risk assessment technology tools to implement nutrient management decision support at field, farm and watershed scale.
